what is scenic glory - a book project

i spent a good part of my day yesterday creating a book for my illustration class.  the only requirements were that it had to be a certain amount of pages, had to include text (a poem, song lyrics, or your own writing) and some illustrations.  lucky for me we were able to create our book on the computer so that's what i did.

i decided to use my own personal writing for this project.  not too long ago i did a post on what is scenic glory?  i took my writing from that and created this illustrative journal.  i will be starting a print shop (stationary, large posters, calendars...more on that soon!) and will be sending this little book with all the orders :)  just imagine a box around each of these pages...haha there is a lot of white space here but hopefully you can visualize what it will look like.  i will take pics of the final product and post soon!

drawing nature - an illustration journal

is anyone else a sucker for journals?  oh my goodness i find myself purchasing a new one nearly every month even though i hardly have the time to write in them.  my love for journals is a slight addiction i must say, which in part is why i created the what would journal project

i recently came across this draw nature journal by jill bliss and purchased it right away.  i have really loved my illustratioin class and thought this journal would be a great way to continue getting practice...and who doesn't love drawing nature!

sadly i have not had time to add to it quite yet...the second i do i promise to share!  if you are a new follower or happened to miss my post regarding the what would journal project...be sure to check it out here  i would love for you to join in!  XO, lindsay

taking flight - a new illustration/watercolor

click for larger image

good morning lovelies!  i thought i would share with you my latest creation.  i call it taking flight.

i had class last night and the assignment was to create and draw an illustration and then use watercolors to add some dimension.  i have never used watercolors before but i can say i absolutely loved it.  have any of you worked with this medium?  i'd love to see your work!

i loved this project so much, i think i will be investing in the materials so i can do more with it at home - you know with all the free time i have ;)

hope you all have a lovely day! xo-lindsay

inspiration free people - illustration project

good morning lovelies!  i hope you all have had a wonderful start to your weekend.

design classes have started again for me and i thought i would share a recent project that i just had this week.

we were required to bring in a picture of whatever we wanted.  i had just received the january free people catalog and of course it was beautiful so i decided to bring it along.  the project was to select an image and draw an illustration of it.

here is the catalog picture i chose...

isn't this cruiser bike adorable.  i actually have seen this bike for sale at a local bike shop...one of my favorites.  i can't wait to buy one this summer!

here is what my illustration turned out like...

then we had to copy the illustration onto colored paper (we were only able to use 4 colors!!) and create a second image that changed the meaning of the original illustration.

this is what i created...

i used purple, green and two shades of blue.  i thought putting this girl in the clouds was a perfect representation of being on "cloud 9" because lately that's how i've been feeling :)

we weren't required to make the image 3 dimensional, but i thought adding these elements made it more interesting.  it is difficult to make something look interesting with only 4 colors so i had to do something :) luckily my teacher loved it!

now that classes have started back up again i will be able to share all of my new projects with you...yay :)  i'm working on a new window display tomorrow as well so expect pictures from those too!
