good things really do come in small packages

last week i received an interesting voicemail from my grandmother "...lindsay when you get a chance call me back...i have something really interesting to share with you..."

i had just gotten off of work and the second i got home i called her.  she had told me that she was sorting through her old books deciding which ones to give to charity.  she thumbed through them to make sure there weren't any papers...well one did.  inside was an envelope.  when she opened it this is what she discovered...

...a savings bond given to me by my great great aunt and uncle for my first birthday.  my one and only savings bond that i have ever been given.  when my grandma told me the news i was shocked!  this little piece of paper is nearly 25 years old.  what a nice surprise :)  my grandmother sent it in the mail the next day and i received it just yesterday.  excited to see this pretty piece of currency i opened the envelope to find another unexpected surprise...

there is nothing better than a hand written letter.  not to mention an old one written by family.  every day i am reminded just how special life is and that good things do truly come in small packages.

have a magical day xo-lindsay

  1. That is the sweetest thing! Hand written letters are my favorite too, especially from my grandma!

Around Christmas my grandpa found gifts my great-grandmother meant to give those of her great grandchildren at the time, but hadn't. They were perfectly wrapped in tissue paper and had been sitting in a filing cabinet for over twenty years. They ended up being little socks- makes me so happy thinking about it!

  3. That is the neatest thing ever! One time I picked up some vintage greeting cards at an estate, came home and was going through them, and a silver certificate one dollar bill fell out. I kept it. :) It was so neat to see someone's birthday money from that era come straight out of the card! I have a letter from my mom when we were babies. I love that too.

  13. How sweet!!!!! I love her handwriting - you can tell it came from a time when penmanship was truly an artform...not a QWERTY form!
