go the distance

images found on we♥it and edited by me

the holidays really make me think about traveling.  when i was young my parents and i would pack our bags with gifts in hand and head to the chicago airport...destination cleveland, ohio or knoxville, tn.

i never really cared for flying.  i still don't for that matter.  it seems like it's always the option of choice because it gets you from point A to point B fastest.  obviously sometimes this is necessary...but to me taking the longer scenic route is so much more interesting.  i have never had the opportunity to travel to a destination by train, but would really love to.

something about being able to look out the window and take in all he scenery without having to worry about which direction your going and the cars all around you seems so amazing.

one day i will go the distance by train...until then i will just daydream ♥

have a magical day! xo-lindsay

  1. this made me smile!

    I have never been a really long distance on train, just from Connecticut to NY and Boston, but like you said, it is a lot more enjoyable to take the scenic route.

  3. I love the idea of getting out of town for Christmas too. One year I went to Mexico and it was sunny and full of tequila...it seemed wrong but yet so right. So very right.

  6. i love taking the long way places too! once, it took my family and i an entire day to get to the beach. we stopped at every little historic place and ate at the cutest little diners. best trip i've ever taken! but flying is, alas, faster. lovely pictures!

  7. Oh, I'd take a train trop over going on a plane anytime. Last time I took the plane, it was from NY to Korea, which was 18 hours nonstop flight... I don't like being tied up in a small space, especially since I'm claustrophobic :(

  8. The only time I've ever flown was when oceans were involved. We drove from VA to TX one year, our last vacation actually, about um, five years ago. We stopped everywhere and had such a good time. I remember driving into Texas and thinking it was just amazing, I'd never seen land so totally FLAT! There is nothing better than trips like that, the discoveries you make, the views, the people, it's all amazing.

    You should put that on your happiness list! I'd so love to see the pictures you take from even a short trip on the train!

  21. trains are such a fun mode of transportation...they remind me of home because we had a bazillon train tracks through my little hometown and my grandfather because he worked for the railroad his whole career. thanks for that little trip down memory lane. sometimes I wish I could snap my fingers and be somewhere else...too bad they haven't invented that yet. ;) great post! xoxo {av}

  22. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to take the train everywhere. Whenever I have to start thinking about heading back to Cheyenne or down to Texas to see family I wish, for a moment, that we had a network of trains like Europe. Hop on and enjoy the next few hours!
