snapshots - i need your advice!!

hello lovelies!  i hope you all are having a fab day :)  i am extra happy because i am excited to report that a canon slr camera will soon be in my hands....yes it's true, and i can not wait!!!  i have tossed the idea of purchasing a nikon or a canon (thank you again amy of a daring little life for all of your amazing feedback!) and after playing around with both i decided on a canon.

so to all of my canon slr users out there....what do you recommend and what lenses do you use?  i'd love your input!!  i just can't wait to finally take everyday snapshots with something other than a borrowed camera and my iphone :) xo-lindsay ♥

  1. I started with a Canon Rebel and have since upgraded to a Canon 50 D. The rebel is a great camera to start out with! I guess it just depends on how much you are willing to spend on it.

  3. I think it depends on your budget. If you want a real professional camera, maybe you can buy 50D. But for a starter, I think 550D is a nice option :)

  4. I have three lenses for mine and 2 of them I absolutely can't live without.

The first, and the one that I use the most is a standard 50 mm (in length) lense. This is probably what will come with your camera. It's great because it will give you the same picture that you see with your own eye.

The next I recommend is some kind of zoom lense with a macro setting. I have a zoom lense that is 70-210 mm. If you can afford it, buy something with a bit more than 210. This will allow you to get closer to an image without having to physically move. The macro setting allows you to get really really close to something (1 inch or so) like a flower and be able to take amazingly detailed images.

I also have a 125 mm lense, but I hardly use it because I can everything I can do with it, with my zoom lense.

    I hope that helps.

PS. If you are looking for something for the fun of it and you have some extra cash. Splurg on a seperate fisheye lense. Your landscapes will look larger than life!!!

  5. Good choice with Canon, I am not a fan of Nikons. I really like the lens that the camera comes with. I use that mostly because it's so versatile. I bought a Telephoto lens and its amazing. The pictures are always crisp and clear plus you can take images from far away. You will need a tripod because the one I have doesn't have image stabilization, but the extra effort you make, the better the photo. I want to get a 50mm lens soon because you can get really close up images that are super crisp!! Have fun! I love my camera!

  6. Yay!! I have the Rebel T1i and love it! I feel like it's plenty of camera. There is a T2i and then it jumps up to the pro level. I'm not sure how much you want to spend. Anyway, most will come with a kit lens...mine came with an 18-55 3.5/5 which is decent but to get really great shots I use my 50mm 1.8. It was only $99 which is crazy for a lens. It's a no-brainer, you gotta pick that up! I would say that your kit lens plus the 50mm will get you started. Then you can see if you need a zoom lens it if you want a macro. It all depends on what you shoot. I'm excited for you, my camera has become my 3rd kid. :) let us know what you choose!!

  7. I have a few different lenses; a 300mm zoom, a wide angle, a 1.4 and the standard kit lense. The kit lense kind of sucks but it's a great starting point if you're just beginning. I primarily use the portrait lense since most of my photos are relatively close up. (although I have to admit that a lot of my photos on my blog are snapped with my Canon point and shoot---I'm lazy like that) You will love the dslr; I've been shooting with a 20D for years but just upgraded to a 5D.

Have fun with your new toy!

  8. Oooh, I love the Canon I have. It's an old Rebel xTi but it still works like a charm. I've had it for 3 1/2 years. I have the kit lens, 18-55mm and the 75-300mm lens. I also have a nifty fisheye converter for my smaller lens. I use it for sports and as a macro lens.

A co-worker and I were passing back and forth lenses we would like to get in the future and we were finding ones from $100-$400. They're not exactly the professional, professional grade, but still good lenses.

I want to upgrade...Just money isn't allowing that at the moment. Glad you're getting a Canon!
