my days have been filled with design projects of all kinds. today i am off to one of my favorite local boutiques to work on their newest window display for spring. i am excited about this one...it includes pretty shades of green, paint brushes, a window mural and hanging terrariums!

only a few more days until matthew and i leave for our vacation in the mountains...my heart is smiling and can hardly wait. xo

i hope your day of love was everything you hoped it would be and so much more. i went on a date with a handsome young man, we walked the halls of old buildings and admired the beautiful stair cases, artwork, old photographs and everything in between.

we grabbed a bag of conversation hearts on the way home for dessert, kept each other company by the fire and called it a night. pretty romantic don't you think? yes indeed. xo.

i want you to know that i love you today, just as much as i love you every other day. thank you for making reservations at my favorite thai restaurant for dinner (even though i think secretly you don't adore it as much as i do), i have been looking forward to it all week. of course i'll be wearing red to our date...cliche i know, but you won't judge me. you'll probably say it looks cute and offer to take pictures so i can share it on my blog...i love you for that too :)

not too long ago i introduced you to one of my nearest & dearest friends chandra - there were far too many charming things to share in just one post about this gal...so here is just a little more.

can you share with us some of your other interests? what do you like to do for fun?

I could spend hours in the kitchen cooking, which I oftentimes do (hence the blog with lots O' food experiments!) I like grocery shopping, which I realize is kinda weird. I also love subjecting my family and friends to my experiments... In my opinion, there's nothing better than amazing conversation plus yummy food and wine with people you adore. I also really love going out to eat!!

When the weather is nice I really enjoy going bike riding, running, or rollerblading with my daughter and my boyfriend, as well as visiting local farmer's markets. I'm madly in love with summer! Anything I can do to be in the sunshine is pretty much my favorite. In the winter, I spend most of my time snuggling under big cozy blankets, trying to keep warm. As well as taking spinning and yoga classes at the gym with Lindsay :)

At any given moment, I'm usually in the middle of 2 or 3 (or 4), non-fiction books of the motivational/spirituality type. I'm a bit of a nerd. I don't really have the TV on much, but if I do watch something it's usually anything on The Food Network, or anyone of Oprah's Lifeclass series or cool documentaries.

I love, love, LOVE to travel although I don't do it as much as I'd like at this point in my life. And I could lay on a beach by the sea for years.

Speaking of the Sea, here's my favorite quote right now:

Yummy Food You Make: I conduct Experiments with Earthfood all the time and make all sorts of good stuff. Recently I made a dairy and gluten free Alfredo Sauce that pretty much rocked my world.
Zoo Animal: The zoo makes me sad. I feel bad for all of the trapped caged animals. I am in love with wild cats though... I would love to be able to go on safari and see them in their natural habitat sometime.

our sunday was spent snuggling under covers by the fire. matthew is just getting over a stubborn cold and it seems as though i have caught the bug too. i looked through some of my old photo archives and doing so instantly had me thinking of spring - my favorite season - and reminded me of my love for ivy covered brick...it's charming don't you think? xo lindsay

the gray winter skies have me dreaming away back to one of my favorite places. where the waves crash against the rocks, kites blow in the wind and lighthouses shine. lakeside is such a beautiful place...i'm happy that i was able to capture these photos during a recent summer visit with my grandparents. they bring back the fondest of memories from my childhood :)

i woke up this morning to the most beautiful snow...almost 7 inches overnight and still counting. watching the little birds try and find a resting place on the branches has been quite comical...matthew was sweet and cleared off some of the snow for them so they can rest their tiny wings a bit. i'm waiting for the cardinals to come out and play...that would make the prettiest picture don't you think?

also this day is extra special because 6 years ago was the beginning of our love story - here we are now married for nearly 2 years and helping make each others dreams come true...we're so lucky.

today is a special day...i am lucky enough to be able to introduce you to an amazing lady named chandra. she is one of the most inspiring people i have ever had the pleasure to meet. she is my friend...every day she encourages me to reach new heights and motivates me in times when i feel everything but motivated. after you know chandra, your perspective on life...your idea of living is changed forever. i think you'll understand what i mean...

First tell us about yourself and the things that inspire you.

I'm 33 years old and live in Lincoln, NE.. the land of beef and corn!! I have the joy of sharing my life with a girl I call Miss M. She was born 12 years ago, upside down in the splits, and has been dancing ever since.

Cheese is the name of our cat. She is orange in color and was named after people food, but does not eat people food (aside from the occasional snickerdoodle). I date a guy whom I affectionately named Sweets. I had a crush on him in Junior high, but we didn’t go on our first date until one year ago on New Year’s Eve. He is the love of my life.

I'm inspired by people who follow their hearts. I believe that we are all given our passions, desires, interests, and talents for a reason. They are the divinity within us and they are our contributions to the world. I am downright passionate about following dreams, and helping others to do the same.

I am so motivated & inspired by people who have a desire to follow their dreams...what are some of the dreams that you are most passionate about?

In order to answer that question I have to go backwards a little...
I had a somewhat rough beginning to life, seemingly doing everything the hard way (this was totally my own fault, by the way!!) . At about 25 years old, Iexperienced what I affectionately refer to as my quarter life crisis. This ‘crisis’and the subsequent years of finding myself has left me downright passionateabout leading the fullest life possible, and helping others to do the same. I’ma true believer that in order to live a full, healthy, happy life we have to do3 things:

1. Treat our bodieswith respect, love them, and nourish them well.

2. Be just ascareful about what goes into our minds as what goes into our bodies… they arenot separate entities as we oftentimes think, and I truly believe that one doesaffect the other.

3. Recognize ourpassions and desires, believe in them, and give them the space in our livesthat they deserve. They were given to us for a reason, they are the divinitywithin us, and they are our contributions to the world.

The entire reason I started The Earthfood Experiment was to help not only others with all these aspects of life, but myself as well. I love starting conversations and bringing awareness to quality of life issues. We all deserve to have rich, full lives and it's my single greatest desire to be able to travel the world helping people believe in themselves and actualize their dreams. So, I guess you could say my dream is to help others dream!

My other desires include living near the ocean someday (I'm madly in love with it!!), being able to show my daughter all that the world has to offer, spending my everyday doing whatever happens to excite me in the moment.

What plans do you have in 2012 to help you reach your dreams even further?

This year I plan to spend the bulk of my time notifying the world about The Earthfood Experiment, and creating a loving, playful, and inviting community for anyone who is interested in living the highest quality of life possible. A place where we can meet to pump each other full of good food, good thoughts, and inspiration.

In addition, I will be starting Life Coaching Courses with Martha Beck this year, which I'm beyond ecstatic about! It's my desire to be able to assist people with their lives in a one-on-one setting.

I also want to do some traveling in order to start narrowing down the places I want to move to! I must be somewhere warm and by the ocean. That I know for sure.

dear winter,

i wanted to take the time to thank you for your sunny blue skies and extra nice weather. i typically don't enjoy being outside this time of year, but because of you i have taken a liking to it. early evening strolls by the train tracks, enjoying a cup of hot cocoa on an outside park bench...really it doesn't get much better.

i must say that my animals really love you as well. sunshine through an open window is what they live for.

i know you don't get thank you's like this very often, because well...you're winter. but i just thought i would let you know that this year, you are extra special.

this month has just flown right by me...it seems like it passed in just a wink. my weeks have been filled with design creations, dinner dates with the mister, lunch dates with my besties, finalizing plans for our scarlet & cream mobile dessert trailer, and a little guitar playing. my favorite tunes as of late...anything beatles. i have always been a fan, but these british men have really put a smile on my face while working in the studio :) XO

a blue orchid & pineapple basil martini

my bestie chandra (of the earthfood experiment) and i decided to have a ladies night on friday evening. what completes our ladies night you ask? great conversation, great food and great drinks. i am happy to report that we achieved all of these things :)

we enjoyed a beautiful pineapple basil martini, lettuce wraps appetizer which were beyond amazing, tofu thai entrees (miss chandra went vegan for the season and i am a vegetarian) and a few fabulous desserts (not pictured...doh!!) coconut cake for me and sweet sticky rice and mangoes for her. i talked about my love for thai food not too long ago. my tastebuds never lie...it's still one of my favorites :)

- this UP photo is absolutely amazing! i wish matthew & i lived close to the home that was built in utah...it was built inside and out just like the house from the movie UP. makes me want to have one of our own :)

- vintage books are so fabulous. they are my favorite decorative item to have around our home.

- i so badly want a his and hers old fashioned bicycle for the mister and i. perhaps when we get them we can have a photo shoot like this :)

- classic cars! what's not to love?! the 50's & 60's models make me especially giddy :)

- old luggage...we have a few vintage luggage pieces and every time we use them i wonder to myself where else they have been throughout their life. my samsonite train case (now make up holder) is my favorite. i've had it for almost a year and it still smells of ladies perfume (yes the old lady kind) and i hope it sticks around forever.

- this floral tea cup is so pretty. or maybe i love it because a handsome young man is the one using it? either way it's lovely!

- ahh...i simply adore this "fly away with me" dessert table. i don't know about you but i am a sucker for dessert tables. add vintage inspired elements and hot air balloons on top of it and i am sure to be there :)

what am I most looking forward to in 2012? - Hopefully starting college, I'm going for cosmetology, getting a job and maybe being able to buy a car by 2013 :) My brother in law was accepted into Columbia university, So they (my oldest sister, brother in law and my two little nieces) Will be moving to New York around the new year! I work at Trader Joe’s with my husband by day and crochet whimsical things to wear whenever I’m not there. I got back into crocheting about a year and a half ago and before I knew it I had a shop and was shipping my little creations all over the place. Whenever I sell something I am both happy and sad... happy because it is exciting to know someone likes what you make and sad because I don’t get to keep the item (just kidding... mostly). what are you most looking forward to in 2012?
In 2012 I am very much looking forward to jumping into the craft fair scene! 2012 will also be the year that my husband graduates from college and we plan a great trip to New Zealand, Australia and as much of Europe as our bank account allows. My husband Sean is a carpenter. We have a romantic story? Want to read it? Click here! We had gotten pregnant with my second daughter, his first. My first daughter Blue is 13 and Sheah is now 4. I wanted to be home with her and left my job as an area manager for a retail store and lost the bulk of our income to stay home with Sheah. I asked Sean if he would make some woodcrafts and I would sell them on the weekends to make ends meet. He worked full time and came home and made wine bottle holders for me to sell at craft fairs... which are also very cool by the way :) While out in the wood shop he missed us and would make me a wood heart necklace or Celtic knot on a rope and they became my favorite pieces.
I received enough compliments to realize maybe we should make jewelry too!! I added silver and started to add a stone bracelets, leather cuffs etc..... and Payton Woodcraft Jewelry Design was born.... We are blessed that we have such a loyal following and have found something we love to do together!! We are happy to say that all of our wood pieces are made from reclaimed pieces of wood. We hope you love it as much as we do!! xo

I am so excited to introduce my Spring collection of jewelry! With these pieces I am using lots of bright, happy colors. And as usual I've included lots of natural stones and vintage fabrics. I always have so much fun in the process of planning and creating, and I feel like I can't wait another couple months to introduce this collection! The second thing I am looking forward to, which I'm even more ecstatic about, is the birth of our second little one. Pregnancy and motherhood is the most inspiring and thrilling thing I've ever experienced, and I can't wait to do it all over again!

something dreamy - a scarlet & cream update!

i have been getting a lot of sweet comments and emails asking matthew and i how our scarlet & cream dream is coming along...i thought i would share quick update :)

early last week i received a phone call from the people who were going to complete our vintage camper restoration...due to unfortunate circumstances, they let me know that they would be unable to complete the restoration and were willing and ready to send us a full refund. my heart was absolutely crushed...how would we ever find another vintage camper (that was affordable) ready to be up and running by spring?

after a few minutes of feeling sorry for myself i got myself pulled together and thought to ask them...do you have any campers that are already complete? although a finished camper would not necessarily be exactly the way we wanted...i was open to anything. after a few phone calls and photo exchanges, they ended up having just what we wanted...

meet our new scarlet - a 1959 platte, aluminum sided camper. all we need to do is polish her up a little bit, add our graphic wraps (yay for our pretty pin up girl - more design details coming soon!) and swap out the linens on the interior. originally matthew and i always wanted a shiny silver camper, but they were hard to come by...i guess sometimes things happen for a reason :)

OH and as for that pretty photo up top - i'm keeping that idea in my back pocket...NO we don't plan on operating a ferris wheel (although how amazing would that be?), but if we ever decide to have a brick and mortar scarlet & cream dessert diner (drive though style), this is exactly how i want it to look...isn't it dreamy? :) XO

this last weekend i picked up 3 vintage better homes & garden magazines from 1952 & 1953 - oh my goodness what on earth has taken me so long to grab these beauties. the ads are completely and totally over the top - i've never been so in love. the classic coca cola and car ads are my absolute fav!

a new year and a little where the whild things are

when the door to 2012 opened matthew and i decided that this would be the year...the year to set a new years resolution that is probably one of the most important....to live.

although vague, this resolution sets no boundaries and has no limits. at the end of the day i am accountable for the things that i do and don't do...if i can go to bed knowing that i had the best day EVER then i know i am on the right path - imagine 365 days of this (or an eternity...but i'm taking baby steps) - it would be pretty amazing!

i imagine days filled with love, excitement, adventures, and creativity (just to name a few). it will be a wild ride that i look forward to sharing...you can bet there will be pictures :)

i haven't picked up a pencil and hand drawn for quite some time - i have missed it so much and wonder why i ever let it get away...perhaps the use of the computer and working on graphic design projects is the reason. i had fun with this rough sketch and it doesn't get much cuter than these little wild things...i'm really loving this living thing :)

in my previous post i shared how entertaining and having small gatherings at our home is on my list of things to do for 2012. i am all about making the dinner table look pretty and managed to find a few magical things that will do just that - glittery wood utensils, cotton candy topped cupcakes...LOVE.

matthew and i have thrown around the idea of an alice in wonderland themed valentines day party - tea and all...i get giddy just thinking about it :) pretty sure we need to make this one a reality!

happy new year lovely friends! i hope the start of your 2012 has been amazing :) i spent some much needed quality time with my mister over the holidays, which meant not checking my emails as frequently and taking a mini blogging break. i am happy to be getting back into the swing of things again...to get things started i thought i would bring a fresh new feature to scenic glory...one that i see and love all over the blogging world - "things i love"i am always searching for design, home & fashion inspiration and thought i would share a few of the things i am currently loving this week...

1. bow ties :: something about them just makes me smile. i particularly love these bow ties made by forage their vintage fabric collection is completely and totally swoonworthy!

2. paper dolls :: emily winfield martin created these fabulous winter paper dolls available for download here. i just happened to come across these beauties today...i can't wait to print them out on my sparkly ivory cardstock :)

3. mustard & zebra sweater :: i'm a lover of all animal graphics, but mixing zebra's with my favorite color mustard yellow...eeekk! that's all i can say!

4. these botanical calendars by rifle paper co. are a new must have for 2012

5. part of my 2012 resolutions (more about my NYR coming soon!) includes having more gatherings at our home. with gatherings comes....COCKTAILS of course! i came across this vintage cocktails book at anthropologie *now sold out*, but being the bargain shopper that i am, i scouted this beauty out online and found it here and ordered it right away. this little number has been a hard one to find in stock, otherwise it is extremely expensive ranging anywhere from $50-$100 - even though it is currently on back order, i figured it was worth the wait for the $30 price tag!

7. matthew and i are going to be remodeling/redecorating our home offices and think it's important to also have room for our guests to get cozy and sleep...we are all about non traditional and LOVE the idea of a pallet bed (on wheels of course)...we're hoping to hit up our local grocery store this week to see if they have any they no longer need.

9. i simply adore this print - muted colors with a beautiful girl surrounded by cute animals...doesn't get any better.

10. suzani :: is anyone else completely head over heels in love with suzani's? our home decorating is nearly complete in our living area, and now it is time to move into the bedroom and a suzani for our platform bed is #1 on the list. we have a bid on a beautiful one we found on ebay...wish us luck!

thrifted treasures

nothing excites me more than a day of thrifting. we have been doing a lot of that lately and have found so many beautiful pieces for our home.

the vintage singer sewing machine (1909 model) is one of my favorites. we purchased the entire treadle table and are using it as our tv stand and of course have the machine out on display as well...it's one of the most beautiful models i have ever seen. the night we got it matthew and i were talking about how amazing it is to have a piece with so much history...i would love to see the clothes that were made for families with this treasure.

i came across a few other beauties yesterday...a vintage american flag, disneyland vinyl - we have been searching for place mats for our dining room table, we thought nothing is more fun than a record, and antique wooden hangers...yes wooden hangers! about 60 of them for $6. is it sad that I am excited for this? i've been wanting to ditch the plastic hangers for quite some time now so i have an excuse :) XO, lindsay

happy monday lovely friends! my goodness this last week has been crazy...as i am sure it has been for you all also. my week was filled with holiday dinners, lunch dates with girlfriends, carousel rides, cookie baking, late night christmas light gazing, and everything in between. usually penelope (my trusty little camera) is glued to my hip, but this year not so much...why, i do not know :) so please share your picture filled holiday posts (or ANY holiday posts for that matter) with me and this lovely lady...i'd love to see what goes on in your little corner this time of year!

happy monday! i hope you all had a beautiful weekend. we spent some time relaxing at home, celebrated birthdays (happy late birthday kris!) and had a wonderful dinner last night with some great friends. matthew and i made a quick stop by the train tracks to get in a few pictures while the sun was setting...it's my favorite spot, the backdrop of the colorful trains are my favorite :)

the weather has been beautiful (for winter) here in nebraska...i wish i could take pictures **comfortably** outside all year long. how's the weather in your corner?

the day our great dane decided the holidays were over.

yes that face is innocent (looking) and adorable, but don't let our 2.5 year old great dane Brixa fool you!

saturday started just like any other day...matthew went to the grocery store while i was at the gym...he picked me up, we drove home, walked through our front door and what we discovered was shocking...brixa decided the holidays in our household were OVER. she greeted us as always, only this time she had glitter all over her face and behind her was a living room full of shattered ornaments. the bottom half of our tree was completely bare. apparently she thought those sparkly objects were toys.

we immediately called the vet and brought her in. we accounted for all of the ornament hooks, but discovered that at least 18 of our 50 ornaments were destroyed by this little monster. thank goodness we purchased the "shatter proof" ornaments from target that were made of a hard plastic rather than glass...otherwise who knows how this would have turned out. luckily she is okay...she did get sick later that evening and let's just say there is plenty of glittery holiday cheer in our backyard.

her weekend was filled with plenty of belly rubs and kisses and she is starting to feel more like herself. in the end i guess she got what she wanted because we took down the tree and put it away for next year...maybe :)

snow scene mason jars and a pomegranate on top!

i finally took out all of our antique blue mason jars and clear mason jars from our wedding and decided to put them to decorative use around our home. i went to pinterest for some inspiration and fell absolutely head over heels in love with the mini snow scenes and decided to recreate it...pronto!

i headed over to joann fabrics and found a set of 21 village snow trees in varying sizes (for 60% off) and also bought a bag of "snow." some other things i had on hand were stems of red berries from hobby lobby, candles, and white rice and beans - for other mason jar fillers.

i started creating and thought having some different height variations would be a good idea as well...i wanted to use vintage books, but didn't have any on hand so opted for something a little different...anthropologie wrapped books. i knew saving those monthly catalogs would come in handy :) i fired up the candles, added a pomegranate for some color dimension and tada...all done :)

i'm happy with how it turned out and am excited to change out the scenes each season...i'm thinking terrariums for spring :) XO

painted birch trees & a few small details

the best kind of decorating is the "free" kind...don't you think? matthew and i were lucky enough to get a lot of antique family pieces handed down to us...furniture, mirrors, china, pictures things like that. the last few weeks we have been going through our basement finding little treasures that we had completely forgotten about...it's like opening presents early :)

recently, i have become particularly fond of the popular wallpaper "woods" available at anthropologie but with a $200 price tag i just couldn't bring myself to fork over that kind of money. instead i grabbed a pencil, black acrylic paint and a tiny paint brush and went for it...

6.5 trees later (with 8.5 trees to go) this is what our kitchen wall looks like. i haven't touched it for a week...perhaps the 2-4 hours it takes per tree tired me out a bit, i'm hoping to finish it up by january...i'll keep you posted :) matthew and i laugh because he was just talking about how he really misses his annual trips to colorado...i told him now he can just look at the wall and pretend he's there!

happy monday! i hope you all had a wonderful weekend :) saturday matthew and i woke up to snow and decided that it was a stay at home kind of weekend. we started the fire (and kept it on at all hours!), lounged around and added some finishing touches to our little tree...who doesn't love a little extra holiday cheer in the home?

this year we decided on bold jewel tones...to my surprise my mister picked out the sparkly star on top...isn't it pretty? it's a nice finishing touch if you ask me, but i am particularly fond of our "tree skirt" it is one of the most beautiful fabrics that i ordered several months ago from india. i had not had an opportunity to use it, but this beauty was calling my name :)

oliver, the little kitten that we rescued (from my in laws front porch) seems to really admire it...i'm still waiting to find him swinging from the branches! XO, lindsay

design*sponge at home - an inside look - p.s. it's amazing!

matthew and i recently decided that it was finally time to start making our house feel like a home. both of us are guilty of allowing ourselves to be completely consumed with work...non-stop. because of this we have neglected to make our little nest feel...well like a nest.

over the last few weeks we have taken some time to liven up our space **all of which i will be sharing in a new scenic glory feature starting in december "house to HOME project"** to help get a little motivated i stopped at the barnes & noble up the street and was so excited to see one copy left of design*sponge at home. i have never rested by eyes on something so completely and totally amazing! here's a little peak inside...

this gem is complete with over 350 picture filled pages...if this book doesn't inspire you, i don't know what will. after paging through it for only a few seconds i knew i had to take this one home (for only $35 how couldn't i)?

i find myself looking through it every day over and over. each time i discover something new...it truly never gets old! needless to say we have made a lot of progress, and i am beyond excited to continue making our house a home. i'll be sharing bits and pieces of our transformation starting next week! until then, i thought i would share a little something from our dining room table :)

i have always believed that it's the small things that count...even if it's just a little something on a dining room table! XO

Hi. I'm Becky, way past 30, living in California, learning how to handle my new life without the 9 to 5. I love building furniture, waterfalls, and anything that involves nail guns and power saws. My 3 kids have flown the nest and I'm finding all kinds of artistic outlets to keep me busy.

How long have you been blogging?

I just started 2 months ago, so I'm a newbie. I've learned so much, sometimes I feel my middle name should be Google.

What inspired you to create your blog?

The first blog I ever read was my daughter's...All Kinds of Complicated. I was surprised how witty and entertaining she was and I decided I wanted to put my ideas and thoughts (sarcasm) down in a blog as well.

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?

I like sharing some of the projects I have done... as well as some of the amusing (ok a bit stupid too) adventures and mishaps I've had along the way.

My favorite post is a tough call. I like my first real post... I Got Some Time. It sort of chronicles my creative reawakening. But then there's Peanut Butter & Diet Coke ... no explanation needed; and maybe Keep Pedaling Forward or Fuji, Fuji, Fuji.

What do you like to do most when you’re not blogging?

What I love the absolute most...is being with my kids. I miss them every single day. But...other than that... I love creating things...oh and West Wing reruns.

If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why?

Well to be honest I've lived in quite a few. I don't think I'd want to go back too far. I kind of like modern conveniences. But the 1970's...I wouldn't mind re-living that decade.

Oh dear, this is a toughie. I would have to probably say the 60's. I've recently become obsessed with the show Mad Men and their wardrobe alone is reason enough to fall in love. I love the dresses, the skirts, the hair, everything really.

First, tell us a little about yourself.

I like to think that I'm endlessly interesting person, but I'll spare you the details and stick with the highlights reel. I'm 5'10". I'm weirdly into my cats, Mish (pronounced \'mēsh\) and Rosco. I nickname things to within an inch of their lives (or in the case of all the inanimate objects, to within an inch of their very existences...). After college, I bought a one-way ticket to Guatemala and hoofed it down to Argentina - three months, nine countries, endless memories. I've been vegetarian for about five years, but I still don't really love tofu. Hablo Español, and I collect quotes. My favorite? "May you live every day of your life." -Jonathan Swift. It's a good reminder to live, not to simply exist.

How long have you been blogging?

I actually had to go look this up, and wow... Evidently I've been blogging for two and a half years now, since mid-2009. I can't believe it's been so long; it's just flown by! It's become such a regular part of my life that I don't even think twice about it anymore, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

What inspired you to create your blog?

I originally thought blogging would be a great marketing tool for my Etsy shop. It turns out that not the case. As you can see, my shop is rather dusty at the moment, but the blog is growing and flourishing. It has become a constant inspiration and a wonderful way to reach out to others who share my same loves.

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?

My favorite things to share on le Shrimp are usually my tutorials. I have so much fun making them, and it makes me keep finding new inspiration and new creative outlets. It's a great exercise in creativity! This guy is my favorite project of the moment. Sometimes though, sharing personal tidbits is really fun because I think readers really like to get to know the lady behind the blog. My favorite post/project of all time was my 100 Things to Do Before I Turn 25. I'm going to be 26 in a couple weeks, and I still haven't checked off some of that list!

What do you like to do most when you’re not blogging?

I love making something from nothing, whether that comes in the form of food, photography, art, or a good time! I love spending time with all the people I love (even the little furry people). More than most things, I love the feeling of waking up somewhere where I'm completely lost, can't understand the locals, and everything is completely, wonderfully new. You discover the best things when you're wandering, hopelessly lost, in a beautiful place on the other side of the world.

If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why?

I'm actually going to take my decades as they come. As tempting as it is to be nostalgic for the glamour of the '20s or the free-spiritedness of the '60s, I love this moment. Right now. I love that I can mix fashions, styles, and sentiments at will, pulling from the best of every era. I enjoy making full use of all the rights I have today that I wouldn't have in another decade. I couldn't be happier with the way my life has come together as the '80s, '90s, and '00s (Zeroes? Really?) have passed, and I'm excited for the teens and '20s. We can have our own roaring twenties, right ladies?!

Current favorite blog reads?

Oooh - this question is absolutely killer. My blogroll is growing out of control, and I have so much trouble picking favorites. Right now though, I'm really loving I Still Love You - Melissa does some great tutorials. In Spaces Between is just beautiful, inspirational, and Rachel is one of the sweetest people. Finally (for now), I love Say Yes to Hoboken - Liz rounds up some great projects and goodies on the regular.

all i can say is that this girl i simply fabulous...not only because her name is also lindsay and she ALSO spells it with an "A", but because her blogaroo is simply fantastic and i know you all will love it as well. her content is diverse fun and filled with inspiration in every corner. so get your bums moving and check this girlie out!

How long have you been blogging?

I'm a newborn blogger so Deer in a Bottle is only 5 months old.

What inspired you to create your blog?

I've dabbled with design and art projects for years, but I never found a creative way to share them. Tapping into the blog community has given me the opportunity to meet amazing friends who also enjoy the same things I do!

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?

Do-it-yourself projects are definitely my favorite. I made a dry erase board from an album cover frame and some old fabric that is by far the most creative art in my house!

What do you like to do most when you’re not blogging?

I make jewelry whenever I have free time from blogging and work. I've had such a wonderful group of blog followers too who support my jewelry and creativity. This also might be pathetic, but I am also pretty addicted to playing the Sims!

If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why?

If all the men in America would look like Don Draper, I would hands down choose the 1960s.

I am constantly inspired by talented artist and fellow Seattlite Moorea Seal. Her blog is gorgeous!

happy monday! i hope you all had a wonderful weekend :) today i wanted to share a few more of my favorite photos from a recent shoot that i did for our family. i shared a few of my other favorites in this post here! i finally had time to finish editing and loved the way these black & white's turned out...this color theme is just so classic...i don't think it will ever go out of style!

on a bit of a side note...matthew and i had a discussion or two this weekend about this little place scenic glory and where i want to take it. recently i have felt stuck in a rut and i am so excited to make some changes around here. i'm hoping to get things started by next month, with everything in full swing by the new year (oh my, i can't believe i just said that...2012 is just around the corner!)

is anyone else a fan of the youtube music sensation kina grannis? i have posted a video or two of hers in the past, but yesterday i came across one that is particularly amazing. it is an official music video for her original song "in your arms"

waffles & mini pies

spring time will be here before we know it which means that our scarlet & cream food truck will be open for business. the restoration has begun on our 1970 fleetwing and we can hardly wait to see her all finished! we have tossed around SO many ideas about what food items to offer out of her...

first we thought of old fashioned soda's and floats, then gourmet styled snowcones, and now we have a few more ideas...banana splits, sundaes, waffles & mini pies (including everything else that i just mentioned!). the concept...a diner on wheels. call us crazy, but we figured we better go big if we want to do it right.

just before halloween i went to the apple barn in tennessee with my family. i had never been and was so happy to be able to stop by while i was in town to visit. the apple fritters with apple butter was beyond amazing...i could have eaten them all day long!

frank sinatra and the smokey mountains

during my visit with family in tennessee, we decided to take a trip through the smokey mountains (and stop at an apple orchard of course!) windy roads were filled with all the colors of fall, the rivers and waterfalls moved effortlessly and the birds chirped the most beautiful songs while we listened to frank sinatra faintly in the background.

we stepped out onto one of the trails and walked along the water...it was so breathtaking. i'm so thankful i had my camera on hand.

it's hard to believe that winter is just around the corner...i adore the changing seasons and to help prepare, matthew and i bought a few new holiday scents - apple cinnamon & spruce. what are a few of your favorites? XO, lindsay

home sweet home

hello loves! i am home sweet home here in lincoln nebraska. i miss my family back in tennessee already, but i was happy to see my mister and our animal family again. yesterday i arrived home to weather so amazing...70 and clear skies, but today under 40 degrees and snow...how the heck does that happen?

a surprise visit

hello!! long time no see :) i have been mia these last few days for a very good reason! the other day i surprised my mom with a visit. we hadn't seen each other since may and i thought flying to visit her, my step dad and the smokey mountains was a great idea! this surprise was 2 months in the making and i am happy to report that she had absolutely no clue....a few tears were shed, hugs exchanged and lots of happiness was in the room :)

our days have been filled with excitement...my favorite so far was driving through the mountains to look at the changing leaves while listening to frank sinatra...it doesn't get much better than that!

i am homeward bound tomorrow and have many more pictures to share - tonight we are going trick or treating with my niece and nephew...i can't wait :) what are you up to this halloween?!?

Hi. I am Dannibeth, a happy, go lucky 30-something girl living in the city. I am a creative who loves to discover new things and new ways of doing them. I love art, food, traveling, crafting, sewing, rainy days, tea, flower patterned rain boots and jumping in puddles. I am a Big Kid at heart!

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for about a year now. I have to admit that I spend so much time creating my artwork and seeking inspiration, that sometimes it takes a backseat. I am still trying to figure out what my style is, so I see a revamp of my blog in the very near future.

What inspired you to create your blog?

After opening Farnum Ink Studio on Etsy, the next step was to create a blog where I could share my thoughts, ideas and inspiration.

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?

I like to share things that inspire me in the moment, whether it be a quote or a photograph. I want to share things that are a source of joy and happiness, life is too short to dwell or live in a state of unhappiness.

What do you like to do most when you’re not blogging?

I like to sew, although you can't see it on my online store, I create organic, stuffed toys. Sewing is a family endeavor, alongside with my mom, we create one of a kind kids t-shirts and are currently sorting through ideas for the next step. I love to travel and I move around a lot, my favorite city where I've lived is London. I must confess, I am a bit of a shopaholic, I joke with my friends that shopping should be an olympic sport! My interests are so varied, I love photography, cooking, yoga, there are too many things to mention.

If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why?

Wow, do I really have to only choose one! I would love to live in the 1960s, it was a time of revolution and evolution. The vibe of the era attracts me, the music and the fashion; I would give anything to time travel to the 60's and see The Beatles or The Doors in their heyday.

I'm Katy Hill. I have many loves including my faith in Christ, my husband, our golden retriever Nola, music, running, good food, and my rain boots because they give me full permission to splash in any and every rain puddle. Oh and I also love splashing in rain puddles. :)

How long have you been blogging?

I started as a food/healthy living blogger in October of 2009, but realized I couldn't be stuck in one certain niche. I love to eat food, but not so much writing about it all the time. I switched over to my blog in January of this year and I couldn't be happier!

What inspired you to create your blog?

I read other blogs all the time and knew I wanted to do the same thing. I figured we all have a story to share and maybe someone will want to read mine. I also thought it was a great way to keep my family and friends in the loop on what was going on in my life. I was newly married and it was fun to document that time in our lives. I've learned so much about myself through blogging and have met so many amazing people. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made!

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?

I love sharing my personal stories because people respond to them the most. Sometimes it's hard to share the bad stuff along with the good. I often find myself chiseling away at the personal posts and having to rewrite them a hundred times, but once I hit "publish" I feel so much better! I also truly enjoy blogging about the littlest things, like trips to the farmer's market, a long walk in the park or an afternoon spent picking apples. I think documenting the little things makes them even more special and many times, when we look back, they turn out to be the big things. I've learned to truly enjoy each and every little adventure life brings! As for my favorite post so far? It would have to be this one, but this one is a close second. :)

What do you like to do most when you’re not blogging?

Most of all, I love spending time with my husband and our pup Nola. I love exploring our new state(we just moved to North Carolina), going to the mountains, working on creative projects, photography, and music.

If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why?

This may seem a bit random, but I'm in love with the Biltmore estate and would love to have been there in it's prime, so the 1890's? We've done some of the behind-the-scenes tours where they've read from relative's journals and it just seemed like an amazing place to stay at that time. I'd love to see how it was back then.

I read quite a few, but some of my favorites at the moment are The Wiegands, Gussy Sews, Kyla Roma, and The Twenty-Fifth Year.

First, tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Valerie. I live in New York City with my husband, Scott, who is in dental school, while I work a regular ol' 9 to 5 job and also own an Etsy shop called DottieAdele. We're both transplants from Oklahoma, so we're trying to make the best of our time in this big, amazing city while we can!

How long have you been blogging?

I just passed my one-year mark in September!

What inspired you to create your blog?

I have been sewing my own clothing for the past couple of years, and I originally started blogging to participate in a blog challenge amongst other seamstresses to wear self-made garments everyday for a month. I didn't know if I would keep blogging after that first month, but I enjoyed it so much, I did!

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?

Although I started out talking mostly about sewing (and I still talk about it a lot), now my blog is also a record of our every day lives. With both of our families and the majority of our friends hundreds of miles away, it's a great way to keep up. On top of that, it's just fun to be able to look back and see what you were doing a year ago on the same date!

My favorite sewing post was 18 Yards of Great Silk Taffeta - I made all six bridesmaid dresses for one of my best friends' weddings, something I was so honored to do for her, and so proud of the end result!

Another favorite about our every day life was New England, Again - a little video I made about a trip Scott and I took with my parents to New England.

What do you like to do most when you’re not blogging?

Well, in case you couldn't tell by now...sewing! I sew at least a little bit everyday, whether it's something for myself or for an order on my Etsy shop, DottieAdele. I also like to cook and bake, and I have a serious love for television - the DVR is always full!

If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why?

I might be cheating, but I want to live in the 2080's! I was born in the 1980's, and I would love to fast forward and see what our world is like 100 years later. The fashion, the technology, transportation, the state of the world - what will it all be like 70 years from now? The world changes so much every day, I can't even imagine!

Current favorite blog reads?

I love Letters of Note - they post fascinating real-life correspondence every day. Sometimes they are letters to or from famous people, humorous complaints, touching notes to children or parents. It's always a poignant and inspiring addition to my day.

this weekend i was lucky enough to be invited to one of my favorite little girls' 9th birthday! anni is the daughter to one of my besties...she is an old soul inside and out and i just love her to pieces. of course i had to get a few shots of her celebration day :)

afterwards matthew and i watched a little college football then headed out with some friends to the pumpkin patch for a night in the cornfields. our fall here in nebraska has been absolutely amazing...i never want it to end!

long time no see friends! i hope you all had a lovely weekend. if you couldn't tell i kind of played hooky these last few days :( last wednesday i embarked on a crazy workout - more like torture if you will. in the process i managed to sprain my right calf muscle which limited my walking ability and left me in pain for 4 days straight!

my couch and i have become real close and netflix is my new bff. i can not forget to mention my husband who waited on me hand and foot and my beautiful animal family that kept me company every second - although i had to remind miss brixa our 170lb great dane that she could not sit on my lap...she just didn't understand :)

anyways...what have you all been up to? my last post about nutella created quite the conversation :) i just can't wait to get out of this house and try it! XO, lindsay

is it bad that i have never tried nutella? to be honest, i'm not exactly sure where to even look for this stuff in the store :) i just checked out some of my local grocery shops and they say they carry it...perhaps i need to give this one a shot. it seems to be a hot trend right now...or is it just me? i have been thinking that it may be a good idea to incorporate this ingredient into one of our food items out of our scarlet & cream food truck if it is loved by so many.

soda pop taste testing & a diamond in the rough

my mister has been super busy taste testing some soda's that we plan to offer out of miss scarlet (haven't read about our scarlet & cream dream? click here!). i am not a fan of carbonation, so i have to leave the job to him :) when you throw in some ice cream...then i'm a fan!

we have been super busy these last few weeks getting everything organized for our upcoming spring opening - i know it's several months away, but once the holidays come and go it will be here in no time! matthew had all of last week off so we stopped at a few places - the health department, to find out about all the necessary permits and code requirements we have to meet, the city clerk, the graphic wraps business in town and a sound system audio place as well. on top of that we made several phone calls, looked around on the internet for some ideas, etc. etc. really the list is never ending so how about i stop now before i bore you to death :)

BUT before i stop too soon...i have to introduce you to miss scarlet!!! last time i shared our dream job with you, we didn't even have our camper picked out yet. drum roll please...

she needs some love, but the fine folks of fine design campers in kentucky are looking forward to the challenge. they are a group of volunteers that specialize in refurbishing vintage trailers! soon she will have a shiny new paint job, some wings and a fabulous new interior.

i can't wait to share her progress with you...i can hardly wait for opening day :) XO, lindsay

happy monday! i am thrilled to say that this weekend was filled with a little me and matthew time, college football games, indian food and tons of animal loves :) i have been super busy these last few weeks staying caught up on all kinds of design projects, taking photos and matthew and i have spent many hours organizing things for our scarlet & cream dream (updates coming soon!)

i realized that i haven't shared a new design in quite awhile - i'm still trying to find the time to update my portfolio with over 30 new designs, but i have been too too busy! so today, i thought i would share one of my new favorites - on solid ground. sarah came to me looking for a blog design for her vintage rental business out of minneapolis minnesota. she was an absolute pleasure to work with!

What inspired you to create your blog?

I started my blog as a online memory book. At first, I wasn't going to share it with anyone, but after I found Casey Weigand's blog... I decided I wanted to try to get the word out. What could it hurt, right?

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?

I think I like sharing just single pictures on my blog. I don't ever want to seem fake or unreal to my readers. I'm just a regular girl that writes. My blog is not that popular, not famous, and I will be happy if it stays at this level forever. I'm writing solely to encourage others. Everyone has up's and down's, tough times, and fun times-- I just happen to share mine.

I spend most of my time doing homework, shopping online, and drooling over things in Elle magazines.

Hi! I'm Che'Lyssa and I am a twenty-something just finding my way through life. I was born and raised in Hawai'i and am still enjoying the sun and palm trees here on Kaua'i.

2. How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since December of '09 and I haven't looked back. It's amazing how many sweet people you can find in blog land. I have made a lot of friends through Lily Love and am so happy I created this little space.

3. What inspired you to create your blog?
I remember donating blood on a whim and just had the urge to document it. Then I had the urge to keep documenting even my smallest of thoughts. A few months later a really good friend said to me "If you want to be inspired and get your creative juices flowing...blog. Blog like a maniac" and so I did and then I stumbled upon blogs that I never knew existed. It was like a Narnia experience. I stepped into the wardrobe and never wanted to look back!

4. What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post?
This was always a question I asked myself for the better half of my blogging experience and I came to the conclusion that I'm an impulsive blogger. I blog about anything. Sure, I have my usual postings: weekend recaps, life-crisis posts and weekly inspiration posts, but a lot of times I can be a pretty random blogger. One thing that I enjoy writing about is my faith in God and how He has changed my life. As for a favorite, I'd have to say my post about letting go. That one took a lot for me to write, but I'm sure glad I did!

5. What do you like to do most when you're not blogging?
I am a sucker for catching a movie on Sundays. Either that or the beach. I am also a Children's ministry leader at my local church and am always planning something fun for the kids.

6. If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why?
1940's. Hands down. I love everything from the fashion and music to the way they lived out their romance and wrote their love stories. Serious swoon.

7. Current favorite blog reads?
I stumbled upon Seedling. It's such a down-to-earth blog. Also, Hue and Hum is another relaxing read.

Honestly…I started writing posts in April 2011 but didn’t tell anyone but my closest friends until the end of July. 4 months later…so officially about 2 or 3 months.

What inspired you to create your blog? I’ve always kept a journal and I always like to save articles, notes, teachings, or pictures I found inspiring. For years I wanted to have a place to not only save it but share it. Back in April God placed the idea of starting a blog in my heart. I was hesitant but realized it would be an amazing outlet creatively and spiritually, so La Luce the blog began.

What things do you like sharing on your blog most? Do you have a favorite post? I really love to share things that expanded my thoughts or perspective on something. You know how you can hear something over and over but there is that one time that you hear it and get a different understanding of the concept? I usually share those through the eye candy: soul candy posts. Something beautiful for our eyes, and something beautiful for our souls. I also love to share the GiveLove Spark challenges. What do you like to do most when you’re not blogging? Spend time with my husband, go on random adventures in the city, find a new cool place. I really love doing anything creative. Painting, photography, image editing, and writing are my favorite ways to chill and get what swirls around inside of me out.

If you could live in any other decade, which would it be and why? I’m totally torn. I love the 40’s because of the style. The style lines were all so unique, but still so feminine. You could tell style was on the verge of being bolder for women and women started taking more risks when it came to fashion. But I love the free spirit aura that the 60’s had. How ‘go with the flow” and “airy” that time was. The art from the 60’s always intrigues me a lot too.

Current favorite blog reads? Oh wow. That’s super hard. I’ll do a top 3 (in addition to yours, because that’s an obvious) I have been most personally impacted by or creatively inspired by are: The Wiegands, Splendor, & A Beautiful Mess. not too long ago i shared with you mine and matthew's scarlet & cream DREAM JOB - for those of you that are new to scenic glory or missed it, the hubs and i have been dreaming of starting a retro trailer "snack shack". about 2 or 3 years ago we first thought of the idea, but with wedding plans and school we were a bit too busy, but now we're ready to go!!

after considering many different options we have decided to officially name our business scarlet & cream and she will be open for business spring of 2012! we will start her off by offering gourmet (yes gourmet) snow cones with handmade all natural syrups - think blueberry lemon poppy-seed, coconut lime and vanilla bean, mojito etc. we hope to also expand and offer other fair type foods as well as old fashioned soda's and ice cream floats...can you tell, we like to THINK BIG!

we are in the process of working with a vintage trailer restoration company based out of kentucky and are in the process of picking out miss scarlet. we are looking for a 1950's-1960's shasta compact and hope to have the final look be something like this...

the story of oliver

the day got away from me yesterday and i was never able to share the story of how little oliver walked right into our lives.

last tuesday, matthew and i were at his parents house checking on their dog shyla...(they were visiting the colorado rockies!) once it got late, we decided to head home...as we were walking out the door we saw this shadow and it acted as if it was starting to walk into the house. thinking it was a possum, matthew ~~slammed~~ closed the door quickly! thinking that whatever that "thing" was would be scared off we opened up the door and turned on the porch light to be sure. much to our surprise that little "thing" turned out to be an adorable fluff ball kitten.

there are several stray cats around matthews neighborhood, but we never came across a kitten. i assumed that when i reached to pick him up that he would be skittish and run away, but instead he started to walk towards me and rested in my arms instantly and purred like crazy. he was as clean as can be, coat was shiny, eyes were bright and vibrant. we began to think that maybe he was a pet that mistakenly got out.

we walked around the block, searching for other kittens like him around or perhaps someone outside looking for their baby...but there was nothing. at that point we decided to bring him home for the night and put up some online listings letting people that may be searching for their lost kitten know that we had found him.

days passed by and we did not receive an email or phone call and no "lost kitten" signs popped up in matthew's parent's neighborhood. i guess all i can say now is, the rest is history. this little guy has been given a name and home...he is now part of our animal family. we are still working on all of our animals getting used to him (our chihuahua - fig , great dane - brixa and cat - duma). we were concerned about brixa most...our 170 lb. 2 year old great dane...but she has completely surprised us. she is gentle and kind in every way imaginable...of course we have the occasional mishap where she forgets she is giant and nudges at oliver with her nose, only to discover she has moved him about 3 feet across the floor. luckly he doesn't seem to have a care in the world and finds it more entertaining than anything :)

i think this is officially my longest post to date...i hope you enjoyed mr. oliver's story and i will definitely be keeping you up to date on this little guy :) XO, lindsay

there is so much to love and remember about lakeside. i was so happy that i was able to visit again with my grandparents...it stirred up all of the happy memories i had of this place from when i was a child. it's just as charming as it was 10 years ago and i'm so thankful to have been able to take these photographs to remind me just how wonderful and dreamy this place really is. i can't wait to visit again!!

remembering lakeside - part l

one of my favorite parts about my recent trip to cleveland was the day that my grandparents took me to lakeside - a small gated community where cute cottages line the streets, squirrels run wild, sail boats glide across the water and seagulls chirp to their hearts content.

i have so many happy memories of this place from my childhood. my grandparents owned their own cottage in this town and many of my summer weekends were spent their with all of my family. i can honestly say it was probably some of the best times of my life. going out on boat rides, building sand castles...it doesn't get much better! i hope one day to take my future family there and share all of my favorite stories :)

hello september! i can't believe it is almost time for changing leaves, pumpkins, apple picking and hot cider! i always get so excited for each changing season...i suppose that living in the midwest has its perks since we get to see all four of them :)

i just got back from a wonderful week long trip visiting my grandparents in cleveland. we did all sorts of fun things...visiting their old lake side cottage was among one of my favorites, i have so many great memories of that pretty place from when i was a child. i captured many great photographs and can't wait to get them all together and share with you!

Hi! my name is Keri and I own Bohemian Backbone boutique. We sell cute boho style clothes and accessories. I started our blog before we opened the boutique in 2010. It is another artistic outlet for me to keep everyone updated on new arrivals, fun giveaway contests and other musings and inspirations about our personal lives.

There are so many favorite things that I love about our blog! One of them is our new feature called "a beautiful Muse" where we showcase other artists, shop owners and bloggers.

I LOVE spending my lazy sunday afternoons catching up on all of the lovely blogs I have wondered across. a tattoo story with Kimberly!

Hi I'm Kimberly the blogger behind Lush Lounge (http://lushdeez.blogspot.com)
I have four tattoos at this time, but I want many more! Someone once asked me what my tattoos symbolized. I had no sentimental meaning behind them when I got them.They are on my body because I love them, because they are beautiful, because the make me smile when I look at them, just because I want them there. They only thing they symbolize is a piece of who I am.

I got my first tattoo pretty quick after turning 18. It was a coming of age, rite of passage type thing. My best friend Jayme are born 1 day apart so a couple weeks after turning 18 we went to the tattoo shop together and got matching peace sign tattoos. Hers is on her wrist and mine is on my ankle and a little smaller. The whole 10 minute process was the worst pain of my life! It hurt so bad I didn't think I'd ever get another one. (ha!)

A little over a year later I mustered up the courage to go under the needle again, this time on the back of my shoulder. A cute little swallow with a trail of music notes flying behind it. The bird was just too cute & music fuels my soul. Perfect! Surpisingly, it was a lot easier this time around.

Jacques was sooo good for my bird I went back to him a few months later for my arm piece. I had only an idea of a flower with stars when I came to him, he drew it into the masterpiece it is today. I LOVE having someone's original artwork on my body! Bright and beautiful, it fits me perfect! The whole thing took several short sessions, the quote "Follow Your Heart" came to me towards the end of the tattoo and was the perfect way to wrap it all together! That phrase is one I try to live by and seeing it on my arm everyday is a great reminder!

My fourth and last (for now) tattoo I had been thinking about getting for months before I finally did it. I am not the spontaneous type when it comes to body art. Romantic is what I am, the spot is so sexy, I couldn't be more happy with it's beauty! The hearted "I" filled in red was a sweet little touch from the artists input.

I have the hardest time deciding which is my favorite - they all are! I love them all so much and I want many more!
