the suitcase for life - part IV

image found on we heart it and was edited by myself

i try my hardest not to hold a grudge....although sometimes this is difficult, i have realized over the years that it is not worth my time or my energy. i recognize that people make mistakes, myself included, and with that realization i discovered how important it is for me to be able to forgive...this is why i have packed forgiveness in my suitcase for life.

i really believe in the quote "forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is an attitude." this is how i look at a lot of things in my life and because of this i am able to have a much more positive outlook on things. i am forever grateful for this discovery because every day i am stepping another foot in the right direction...i can't think of a better path to be on.

what items do you have in your suitcase for life?

yay for awards ♥

not too long ago i received my very first stylish blogger award...now i am lucky enough to say that i have received this awesomeness from two other lovely ladies...3 stylish blogger awards total...really?!? i can't believe it...i feel so loved!!

first, i would like to give a big thank you to ladies amy with a daring little life

and ashley with ashley plus three

if you haven't stopped by their little corner of the world you must do so asap ♥ you don't know what you are missing out on!

so now it is my turn to share 7 new random facts about me...i bet you are all so excited :) haha
here goes nothing.

1. i have never had the chicken pox. i can remember in 1st grade everyone including all of my bff's that i hung out with outside of school were home sick with the pox...i remember wanting to get them so i could have a week off of school too :) well i guess i never got my turn! hopefully with older age i will have this luck...i hear they are 100x worse if you get them when you are an adult...yikes!!

2. i have very fair skin and i sunburn so easily! i can get a little bit of a tan, but me being tan is just a shade or two darker than a white piece of paper i kid you not! i used to be super self conscious about this, but i now love my pale skin ♥ i think it is pretty too!

3. my favorite color is yellow...it just makes me feel so happy :)

4. i ran in 2 half marathon a few years ago and it was one of the biggest things i have ever accomplished. matthew and i trained together and it really made for some excellent bonding time. i would love to do it again...i just need to stop making excuses! if i did it once (well actually twice) i know i can do it again :)

5. i have been a vegetarian for 5 years

6. i am 5 feet tall on a good day...to make up for this i wear 4 inch heels every chance i get. people think i am crazy, but really they are comfortable to me now :) yay for platforms and stilettos...they are my bff's.

7. my fashion weakness is earrings...my goodness do i have a ton of these things, but i wouldn't have it any other way. no matter what you will always find me sporting a pair of these babies...they always make me feel good!!

okay now it's time for me to pass this award on to some other lovelies ♥

marisa of shades of monet

a printable holiday card just for you!

when i don't feel well i especially like to design stuff :) lucky for me sitting behind a computer and clicking buttons doesn't put too much stress on my body! so today i decided was the perfect opportunity to design a lovely little holiday card just for you (and the recipients of course!!). just click here or on the image above to be directed to the site where you can download (it will download as a PDF on your desktop) and print!

the card size is 4x6 when folded...and no worries it's blank on the inside so you can write whatever your little heart desires! all you need is some cardstock paper and envelopes from your local crafting store and you're ready to go!

stay tuned for printable gift tags and thank you cards (for all those lovely gifts you receive) coming soon!

hope everyone is having a lovely sunday! lucky for me matthew is making plenty of hot chocolate to help cure my sore throat!

ticket to anywhere

i am just curious...if you had a ticket to anywhere, where would you go? i think today i will take this ticket and travel to india! i want to discover their culture and learn about what a day in the life of a local would be like in this magical place.

i would walk up and down the market streets and watch as the workers construct beautiful fabrics and lend a helping hand. i would visit a temple and take in all of the beautiful scenery.

tell me where you would go and what adventures you would take...i would love to hear!!

xoxo

shhhh it's a secret

what's your secret?

yesterday when i came home from a lovely evening with friends and family for thanksgiving i was surprised to see i was tagged in 3 different fun and exciting blog things. i received a stylish blogger award from the lovely amy with a daring little life, i also was tagged in the post "for the love of four" by melissa with perfect peace, and i was also asked to share 7 secrets. i decided to break this up a little bit so tonight i will be sharing some secrets with you all...but clean of course :)
so who is it that would like me to share these 7 secrets you ask...the beautiful natalie of diary of a girl abroad of course. i just recently came across her amazing blog...if you haven't visited her before be sure you do pronto...you won't regret it :)

now on to my seven secrets...

1. i am a tad bit (okay maybe a big bit) obsessive compulsive. if i am searching for something such as a shirt and i can not find it, i will search and search until i do. there could be 10 other shirts that i could wear, but i absolutely have to find the one i am thinking about otherwise it will bother me all day long...and that is not a good thing :) this isn't just with clothes though, this is with anything...a pen, a pair of earrings, a watch...you name it!

2. people mistake me for an organized person...but sadly i am not, however in my defense i have a very good memory which makes up for my lack of organization. when working on projects i tend to be the one that has things thrown all over the place...but this is how i work and it is effective for me...i think :)

3. i'm a procrastinator...as much as i hate to say it i am. not neccessarily with things that i am excited about, but definitely with things that i am not looking forward to. a lot of people like to bite the bullet and get it over with, me however i wait until the very last minute...hmmm maybe this should be a 2011 resolution...stop procrastinating!

4. i used to have boys over at our house even though i wasn't supposed to (sorry mom if you're reading this). not that i was doing anything wrong...i just liked the company! i was a mix between a girly girl and a tomboy so i needed to have guys time too!

5. in 2nd grade i really started to despise math. we would have assignments to work on during class and the last thing i wanted to do was work on them so what did i do?!? a horrible horrible thing...i swiped the "finished" pile and erased my classmates name and wrote my own in. not only did i do that, but i brought the papers into the girls bathroom to do it so no one knew what i was going on...my gosh i can't believe i did that!!

6. when i was little i stole a pretty marble egg from a department store when i was with my mom. she finally noticed it when we got home and asked me where i got it from...i told her a chicken. pretty sure she didn't believe me!

7. in middle school i used to sneak in to multiple movies at the theatres in one day...have any of you done this? i was just a bored girl with not much to do at that age so seeing multiple movies seemed like a fun thing to do...sometimes i still would like to do this!! :)

well...those may not have been all that interesting, but they are secrets none the less. now it's my turn to pick 7 other fortunate people to share their secrets with us!!

ashley of miss ashley
kai of all kinds of complicated
ashley of ashley plus three
jenny of the swede records
vic of freckles and fudge
katie of katieebee
kathy of happy kathy

looking forward to reading about your seven secrets!!

have a lovely evening everyone :)

a blast from the past

i heart old photographs...do you? since matthew and i had our wedding ceremony and reception outside, we weren't able to do the electronic slide show so instead we opted for a vintage suitcase filled with pictures of us throughout the years.

these are a few of the ones that we had inside :)

have a lovely day friends

a couple of my favorites...

matthew and i had an absolute blast doing our engagement pictures and i thought i would share just a couple with you.

since we decided to do the vintage carnival/circus theme we thought it would be fitting to do a few of our pictures at the state fair...

people kind of looked at us a little funny wondering why on earth we were walking around with a photographer right behind us taking pictures of us kissing every 10 seconds. haha i'm sure some of them figured it out :)

xo lindsay

from another decade...

have you ever wondered if you were born in the wrong decade? i feel like i have such an old soul for my 25 year old body...maybe it's just that i really wish that i lived during the 1940's. or maybe i just wish the fasion were the same.

all images found on we♥it

so classic and so incredibly beautiful...not to mention the cars were fabulous and the men dressed so handsome!

what decade do you think you're from?

i'm working on my blog roll and i need your help...

hello lovelies! so last weekend i was planning to work on the "lovely blogs" section of my happy little place and i failed miserably...shame on me! i am planning to pull myself together and make it a priority to get these done asap, but i need a little help from my fellow followers :) i am interested in making this section uniform and was thinking to have each individual blog button look like a polaroid photo with your blog title.

i was especially inspired by the lovely lane of my lovely little suitcase if you haven't seen her blog you must stop over...it is breathtaking!

so here is where you come in! if you are interested in being included i would love it if you would send me your most favorite photo (at least 200x200 pixels) to represent your blog, the url that you would like it to go to and what "blog title" you would like me to use with the picture.

if you would be so kind :) send the details to me at scenicglory{at}gmail{dot}com

if you don't want to send me a picture and would rather i use your designated blog button...no worries i won't leave you out you will be included as well :) just let me know!! ♥

i am going to be featured on the lovely jill's blog lune vintage and have also won an advertising space for the month of december so i would love to have this done before then...there's nothing better than spreading the love.

sorry for this long wordy post :) just wanted to make sure that i fit in all of the details.

p.s. two winners for the blog button design giveaway will be announced tonight...don't forget to post a comment here to enter in the drawing.

a day in my shoes...

unfortunately a day in my shoes is not all too interesting, but i thought i would share a little bit about a day in the life of me!

i have always been an early bird and generally start my day around 6:00 in the morning. i try my hardest to eat some breakfast and spend a little time reading the newest blog posts of the lovelies that i follow :) i get ready for a day at work and spend some time with my cute little animals and matthew of course and then off to work i go.

matthew and i both work for the same insurance company...we used to actually work in the same department (no this is not how we met!!) but he is now in a different area. my work is not all that interesting...i am in the marketing and sales department and that's about all i will say because there is no need to bore you :), but i absolutely love the people i work with so it makes it all worth while. my good friend paul likes to take pictures on his cell phone of random things so i modeled for him.

Photobucket

he and his girlfriend (also my bff) got matthew and i these abe lincoln mugs...aren't they fab?

after work i go home and matthew and i eat dinner...he loves loves loves to cook so he always has it ready when i come home, how amazing is this? we take some time to catch up on things and talk about our day while our lovely little pets watch us from a distance hoping something will fall on the ground :)

some nights i have class (i am currently in school for graphic design) and on tuesday nights i teach a hip hop class (check out the hot pink and neon blue shoes up top...they are the best street dancing shoes ever)!! on the nights that i am off, i work on some design work for Corey a local photographer, create window display decorations for stella, watch my favorite tv shows with matthew and catch up on some reading. We like to take our furry family out for walks too, but with the cold weather coming our way they are not all that interested!

well i warned you...a day in my shoes is not all that interesting, but regardless i am happy and am taking the neccessary steps to get to exactly where i want to be. once i am there i will be sure to share another day in my shoes :)

what is a day in your shoes like? i'd love to know!!

have a magical day ♥

the suitcase for life - part lll

"kindness is a language which deaf can hear and the blind can see." - mark twain

to me kindness is one of the most important character traits that one can have. with kindness you can brighten up someones day at the drop of a hat...this is why kindness is in my suitcase for life.

there are so many opportunities on any given day to show an act of kindness. whether it's a family member, friend or stranger. the best thing is, kindness is free...most importantly it is contagious. if there is any chance that my act of kindness can influence others to pass the kindness around, then i know i have achieved something truly beautiful!

have you thought about the things in your suitcase for life? feel free to join in on this series.

goodbye for now lovelies ♥

what's in your makeup case?

so today i thought i would do something a little fun and different and share with you some of my favorite things in my makeup case. first off, if you are looking for a cute makeup case that is easy to transport and has plenty of space i highly recommend a samsonite train case (preferrably the older ones because they are so so cute!). i found this one at a local thrift store for $3...amazing! also when you add a little picture of an owl on the inside it makes it super super adorable ♥

aside from makeup i also store all of my hair products in this pretty little blue case. i never used to really use hair products until i cut my hair short so now i absolutely love to use them!

i love my paul mitchell super skinny serum (this keeps all of the flyaways from happening). i also use aveda leave in conditioner, bed head paste and bed head- hard head hair spray. these all have become a must in my every day styling.

my favorite make up to use by far is bare escentuals. i first starting using this product a few years ago when i came across a free standing store for this product in the mall of america. i was a little hesitant to use it at first because i thought it would not cover very well, but i was very very wrong. this product has done absolute wonders for my skin and i would highly recommend it to anyone! they always have such great package deals which include eyeshadow, mascara, lip gloss and brushes...don't even get me started on the brushes (they are simply amazing).

i recently came across a new brand called urban decay which is all kinds of wonderful. i particularly like their eyeshadow pallets. their waterproof mascara and eyeliner is completely and totally fabulous...i will never use anything else!

so what's in your makeup case? i would love to know!!!

relay of friendship

my goodness have i been quite the lucky girl this week. as of today i have 40 lovely blog followers as well as 34 subscribers all thanks to the amazing support that i have received...many hugs and kisses from me to you!

a few days ago i was handed the baton for the relay of friendship from the beautiful adrienne of a whole lotta love. she so graciously handed off this baton to her new friends and new bloggers and i would absolutely love to do the same. it is such an honor to be surrounded by such love and acceptance. the creativity, self expression and inspiration i have been exposed to this last week has been nothing less than magical. this really is such a wonderful place to be! and now with great honor i would like to pass the baton to:

beth of warm bouquet
trina of feed the birdies
hello, mint
laura of lalalovely
sezasaurus
*s of our one sweet world

now on to the questions!!!!!

what did you want to be when you grew up?
aside from wanting to be a rock star like madonna (refer to my last post) :) i dreamed of being a dolphin trainer.

what were your favorite cartoons?
care bears, rainbow bright and strawberry shortcake all the way!! :)

favorite childhood game?
when my mom and i lived with my grandparents, my grandfather would always bring home balloons from work...we would go out on their balcony and we would "set them free" as i would call it.

most favorite birthday?
this is a hard one to answer...many of my birthdays during elementary school were spent at disney land because april 1st was always during spring break. so i can't just pick one! :)

something you have always wanted to do, but haven't done yet?
travel the entire route 66 with matthew in my bug convertible :)

what was your first love

my family...followed by friends and animals.

first musical idol?
that dang madonna...again! my mom has said that my favorite song was "just like a prayer" (only i thought it was "just like a bear" silly me)

favorite gift?
the unconditional love that matthew shows me every single day.

if a theme song played for you everywhere you went, what would it be?
blackbird - the beatles

favorite city to visit?

i feel like i haven't seen enough out there to answer this question, but for now i will say chicago. this is where i grew up, but it is always so nice to be able to visit again!

have a lovely day!!
xo lindsay
